Migrate/Transfer User Data - AD Integration

Martim Schnack February 9, 2014

We recreated our Active Directory and we have Jira and Conflunce connected to it through Crowd. What is the best way to make sure that all user data is kept, even though a few users had their username changed (like "jdoe" is now "john.doe")?

If you are running Crowd 2.7 (and your versions of JIRA and Confluence support user renaming) and the entries in your active directory were renamed rather than recreated, then Crowd should detect the rename and things should "just work".

If you blew away the whole directory and created it from scratch, you could set up aliases in Crowd for the JIRA and Confluence applications as required, such that the new users are aliased to their old usernames.

Once you've done that, if your versions of Crowd, JIRA and Confluence support user renaming, you can optionally rename the affected users and delete the aliases.
