import a space in confluence version 5.0.3 in local from 3.4.9

Shelly April 8, 2015

I have upgraded from confluence 3.4.9 to 5.0.3 in my local, following the below mentioned path:

3.4.9 -> 3.5.17 -> 4.3.0 -> 5.0.3

I had created a wiki space in 3.4.9 production where I used almost all the commonly used macros and plugins so that I could test how data migration will affect these pages/spaces but, after upgrading to 5.0.3, I decided to involve one more space that includes more macros and complex things to test. I exported it in xml format but, was not able to import it in my local (version 5.0.3). It must be because we can restore data from the same major version only but, is there any way to include that space now?

Hi Shelly,

That's right. You can't import spaces from different major versions. In this situation, I recommend:

  1. Install a Confluence vanilla 3.4.9
  2. Import the Space XML into that one.
  3. Upgrade this vanilla instance to 5.0.3. (Follow this path 3.4.9 -> 3.5.17 -> 5.0.3)
  4. Export the Space again to XML
  5. Import into production (they will be from the same version now)

I hope this helps!

Cheers,

Rodrigo
