database migration during upgrade???

Mike Welch February 19, 2015

We are going to upgrade our Wiki instance from 4.3.7 to 5.7.  We also need to move our DB off of a MSSQL 2005 machine to a MSSQL 2012 machine.

Do we go ahead and do the upgrade to 5.7 using MSSQL 2005 DB, THEN move the DB over? Or do we move

the DB first then upgrade?

It's a sticky question, Mike, because Confluence 4.3.7 doesn't support SQL Server 2012 and Confluence 5.7 doesn't support SQL Server 2005. Please try upgrading the database first, then Confluence, but try in a test environment.

Thanks Ann. Yes, we have two test instances we have to do before production. All are using MSSQL 2005.

Would we simply export data from our 05 database and load it into the 2012 DB?

I would go by this document: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Migrating+to+Another+Database It describes a method using the XML backup (for smaller instances) as well as a method using native db tools.
