Hardware requirements are a bit harder to define, it depends on many factors: as if you open an anonymous access it will require more machine power than if you just use it with 10 registered users.
What we have found ourselves is that you are perfectly fine to run Confluence on 2GB RAM machine (as it just wants at least 1GB of JVM heap to start).
Hope it helps to start and then you can monitor the system to know if you need to optimize anything
