confluence 3.1.1 randomly slows down

James Lim-It June 12, 2013

Hi. Sometimes, there are times when confluence 3.1.1 is so slow that you cannot access any page. We checked if its a hardware issue or a network issue and its not. It was not like this before. Its as if the more pages we create, the slower it becomes.

Can it be because of too much content or pages or maybe even macro's installed? We have not ruled out hardware issues. We are still running test to fully determin this. But so far all our test on the hardware side seems to pass. Hardisk space in our server is also not an issue.

Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Thanks,

James

Hi James,

This is almost certainly related to how much memory is allocated to the application because from the sound of it you have had a steadily growing instance but you haven't increased the memory to the instance. So, you can increase the memory allocation, (assuming your server has sufficient reosurces), by following the instructions in this document: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB/How+to+Fix+Out+of+Memory+Errors+by+Increasing+Available+Memory#HowtoFixOutofMemoryErrorsbyIncreasingAvailableMemory-Step2:IncreaseAvailableMemory

I'm confident from the description of your issue that allocating more memory to the instance will resolve this problem so please give it a go.

All the best,
John
