When using Confluence with JIRA as User directory does the license must match?

When using Confluence with JIRA as User directory does the license must match? I have 500 users license in JIRA and would like a much smaller license ( 25 ) for the Confluence. Still in trial 2000 users in but don't know if it will let me use JIRA as user directory after the licence has been applied.

Hi Marconi

The license of the JIRA and Confluence does not need to match even if you use JIRA as user directory.

The trick is to only provide 25 or less user from JIRA directory with Confluence Can Use global permission. This way, the license count is not exceeded.

what happens if the number of can use permissions exceeds the license? In our jira-as-directory setup, the jira-users group is given the can use permission. So when the <license-max> + 1 user is added to the jira-users group what happens in confluence?
