I have encountered a series of challenges with my Confluence page as of late:
"Preview Unavailable": A notable issue arises when viewing my published Confluence page. The majority of images are consistently displayed as "Preview Unavailable" within edit mode. The images in question are of substantial size, making the prospect of re-insertion an extensive endeavor. This concern has arisen with increasing frequency in recent times.
Hang-up and Restoration Dilemma: While engaged in the process of editing the Confluence page, it frequently becomes unresponsive and triggers a restoration problem. Consequently, the ability to finalize and publish my work is hindered. The sole recourse at hand is to shut down the page and subsequently reopen it to resume editing. Sadly, this course of action results in the loss of any prior work invested on the page, including that pertaining to Provident Ecopolitan
In light of these challenges, I earnestly request immediate attention to address these pressing matters. The Confluence page serves as a pivotal platform for disseminating our content, and swift resolution is of paramount importance.
Sincerely,
I am currently facing a similar issue
What is the issue am I facing?
A published page shows all attachment previews successfully, but once it's edited and updated, then suddenly some attachments get a 'preview unavailable' status.
How to reproduce?
I am using a python script with atlassian-python-api library that uses a confluence page token api, to publish a confluence page which attaches .log, .png and .pdf files. Surprisingly, the report gets published successfully and all attachments can be previewed as expected. The problem starts only after I hit on the Edit button and make some text based changes and then hit on the Update button. Suddenly, while looking at the updated page (i.e., I am no longer in "Editing" mode at this point), some (not all) of the previews of the .png screenshots and .log files get a Preview Unavailable prompt.
I have found a workaround to make this work, which makes me question on whether this issue relates at all to permissions, file size, file type, but it's a time consuming workaround and I am looking for an official solution, cause to me it seems like a confluence bug of some sort.
Note: I can verify that this issue was not in place 2 years ago. I was using exactly the same script back then, with no issues during the editing process. Suddenly something changed and this appeared.
What is the workaround?
After the confluence page has been published by the atlassian-python-api, I go and clone the page manually and make a copy of it. Surprisingly, the cloned page, would not encounter the same issues after making changes and updating the text on the page etc. All attachments (.pdf, .log, .png) can be previewed as expected.

The 'Preview unavailable' status for inserted images in Confluence can be due to issues such as insufficient permissions, unsupported image formats, large file sizes, network problems, or configuration errors. Check and adjust permissions, use supported image formats, resize large images, ensure network access, review Confluence settings, and consider server resource limitations as potential solutions.

Ensure that the permissions for the attachments are set correctly. If the user viewing the page doesn't have the necessary permissions to view the attachment, they may see a "Preview unavailable" message. Confluence supports various image file types, but if the inserted image is in an unsupported format, the preview may not be available. Additionally, there might be a restriction on the file size. Make sure the image is in a supported format (e.g., JPEG, PNG) and within the acceptable size limits.
If the image is linked from an external source and that source is currently unavailable or has restricted access, the preview may be affected. Ensure that the external source is accessible and properly configured.

Hi @Brad Bellick and welcome to Community!
We're all volunteers and fellow users here, so to help figure out your problem it would be useful to have some extra information about your problem.
Are you encountering these problems on pages that were migrated from the old editor to the new?
You mention losing the work you've done on your page when you have close your navigator page/tab; normally Confluence cloud automatically saves all changes and blocks you from editing if it loses connection with the internet. Could you possibly be on a Server/Data center Confluence instance?
If you are not a free Cloud instance, you can also raise a ticket directly with Atlassian: https://support.atlassian.com/
