Use rest to change email from claimed domain to an unclaimed domain.

I need to automate changing all users' emails from a claimed domain to an unclaimed domain.

I can change each users's email manually, indicating I have the correct permissions but I get an error using REST:

Is there any way to do what I need to do?

Hello Rich,

Unfortunately, there's not a way to programmatically update your users' emails from your old claimed domain to the new unclaimed domain through REST API.

You will need to claim the new domain first before you can do that. (reference: Verify a domain for your organization)
