Upload/Edit Excel Spreadsheets

I am somewhat new to Confluence. If I upload an Excel spreadsheet from a folder on my local machine--it needs to be attached, first, right to Confluence? If I then edit that spreadsheet–is the original file located in the folder then updated when the file is saved? or do I need to download the (edited/now updated) attached file to the original folder somehow?

Hey Michael,

Let me try to address your questions:

--it needs to be attached, first, right to Confluence?

Yup.

--If I then edit that spreadsheet–is the original file located in the folder then updated when the file is saved?

If you edit that spreadsheet from Confluence, you will be editing the uploaded file and not the original one(the one from your local folder).

--or do I need to download the (edited/now updated) attached file to the original folder somehow?

I believe my previous reply cover this one smile.

Hope it helps,

Tks,

David

Yes, it needs to be attached. You can edit the Excel file using WebDAV. It's quite annoying because it's not like Excel is embedded in Confluence, so you constantly have to manage your attachments.

Because of this, I've built a tool for enterprise spreadsheets in Confluence. It lets you create and manage data alongside your pages, then you show excerpts in your content. You can modify the data inline, filter, use the pagination, etc. See the Marketplace record: Play SQL Spreadsheets for Confluence.
