Since noone replied I'm relaunching my question. Any help would be much apreciated.
We are planning on upgrading and migrating our version of Confluence but I'm not sure of the path I should follow.
Currently we have version 5.1.3 instaled on a Windows 7 pc. The database is a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (version 09.00.1406). We are planning to migrate to windows server (2012 or 2016) and Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (as 2016 is not (yet) supported).
I'm thinking of installing a clean version of the latest Confluence version in the new environment and then trying to import the data from the old version. Is this the correct way to go ? Any sugestions are more than welcome. Thanks !
You can rely on the Upgrading Confluence to assist you through this journey. It is also good to check the Supported Platforms to ensure that the version you will be upgrading to support the technologies you intend to have and also to ensure that your technologies are matching the application needs.
Regarding the upgrade plan, I'd do it sligthly different, since importing data from an old version is not currently recommended in order to upgrade Confluence.
I'd first setup my environment with the new Windows Version and new SQL Server version. After that, I'd create a XML backup of my Confluence, install exactly the same version (5.1.3) on my new environment, perform the backup restore and test it with the new technologies. In case everything works fine, then I'd download the installer of the new version and proceed with the upgrade, as stated in the guide.
Hope it helps!
First of alll: thanks for answering !
As nobody in the current IT team has experience with the installation/upgrade of Confluence (the current installation was done by someone who has left the company), we decided to contact a local Atlassian reseller to help us with the migration/upgrade.
