Unable to delete confluence users

I have had some people leave and need to delete them as confluence users to add new users in but i am unable to as they have edited content. How do i get around this?

It's easier to simply shut their accounts down. Remove them from all the groups and they won't be able to log in, and, more to the point, they won't count towards your licence cap.
