Trying to establish an application link throws java.lang.NullPointerException

Jira 4.4.4

Confluence 4.1

Crowd 2.3.6 with SSO

Proxied via nginx.

When trying to create an application link between jira and confluence, confluence fails with:

Rian Josua Masikome pointed me to the Confluence Knowledge Base article NullPointerException when try to configure Application links.

Following the resolution instructions worked like a charm.
