I'm trying to use Confluence for the document management and 'central hub' for a team of volunteers. We're spread out all over the place, but Confluence is where we will do most of our work. Unfortunately it does not have any messaging functionality (that I can find, and I don't want to leave comments all over documents to achieve it) and the closest I can find in an App is a forum, which isn't quite what I'm after.

Most team members won't know each other, or ever meet, so in the absence of messages in Confluence I thought I'd set up a Discord server so we can message, voice chat, etc. to discuss ideas as a group or get quick questions answered. So, I worked out how to get a link to our discord profiles (so we could click a Confluence user and know their Discord profile to send a message) and... there is nowhere in a user profile to add anything like this. Then I thought the Personal Spaces would work to introduce people and include this Discord profile link and... there is no link Personal Spaces from the team list either.

Since these volunteers don't know each other, or work for the same company with corporate software that pulls them all together I am really struggling with how to facilitate basic messages/chats between these volunteers.

The best I have come up with is adding the Discord link to the person's Organisation field on their profile, but it isn't a clickable link, and is not ideal.

Does anyone have any idea, whatsoever, that may help link a Confluence Profile to a Discord Profile in an easy to find and use manner??? It can't be this hard to send each other messages!

Hello, and welcome to Atlassian Community!

I'm Shannon, with the Atlassian Cloud Support team, and I'm happy to help.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to add custom information or links to profiles. However, we have the following feature request which you can vote for.

  • ID-7722 Ability to include custom information to user profiles

As a workaround, I suggest creating page in Confluence with a table or database. List your volunteers names and any details you want to include, such as their Discord profile link. For quick access, you can add the page as a space shortcut in your sidebar.

I hope that helps, but please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks. I've actually already started writing a custom app that uses custom storage to record the links and list them in a table against the confluence user group. It will do for now and should be expandable for other profile links too! Ideally I still need to use a Discord authentication to automatically supply the link, but for now it takes a manually entered URL.

You're welcome! Thank you for bringing this up. It should at least help to get more visibility on that feature request. Best of success on the app you're developing.

Take care, and I hope you have a nice rest of your week.
