Send email notifications to Confluence groups/users

Is there a way to send notifications or announcements via email to Confluence groups/users in Confluence? Like server maintenance downtimes, etc.

A workaround which we followed was to create a user with the email id of the group that you want to inform and subsribe that user (Start Watching Space Blogs) to the blogposts of your space.

And whenever needed add a new blogpost and everyone is informed.
