Is there a way to prevent users from viewing all space updates (e.g. updates made on another user profile)? Actually, I would like them to view some specific updates only (e.g. updates made on pages only).

Under what circumstances are the updates to user profiles displayed to users?
Where do you wish to restrict updates viewed by users? I am guessing on the dashboard.
The All Updates feed on the dashboard will show users any updates on pages they have permission to view. TheActivity Stream Gadget and the Recently Updated Macro both allow you to filter updates.
You could change the site home page to a space of your choosing (could create one for this) and change that to the landing page for the instance:Configuring the Site Home Page. Then you could use the Activity or Recently updated macro with the filters of your choosing.
