Hi Team,

We are using confluence 3.4.6. Licence for 2000+ community users.

We noted that on, at times the confluence application is too slow.

This can be due to excessive logging.

Please provide are a solution for this.

Hi Soz,

You should start by ensuring that neither SQL logging, Access logging or Page Profiling is enabled as these are all intensive logging processes which can slowdown your application. You can also change the logging level to reduce the amount of things that are being logged in the application logs by making the changes suggested in this document: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Configuring+Logging

However, I'm not convinced that logging is the most likely cause of your performance issues, so unless you have conclusive evidence that the slowdowns are related to logging I would suggest that you work through our performance tuning guide to see whether there are any improvements you can make there: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Performance+Tuning

All the best,
John

Er, turn the logging down?

The default logging configuration for 3.4 is quite light, so it's quite likely you've increased logging and caused the problem (with genuine reasons - you'll have a good reason to look for some error in the logs and forgotten to turn it back down afterwards)

If it's not that, then you need to analyse why you think logging is excessive. Have a look through the things you think it is logging excessively and deal with them. One of my clients had a similar problem - almost 3Gb logs a day from normal usage. Turned out they had a whole swathe of configuration problems and Confluence was screaming for help by logging lots of errors, which they'd ignored. Once they fixed them, the logging went quiet.
