Replace text with emoticons

Emoticon auto-completion works fine when I'm typing them in manually, but I've found no way to do this in bulk. For example, if I copy and paste a block of text which includes the markup for an emoticon (e.g. "This is a checkmark emoticon (/)") the emoticon is not shown. This isn't really a problem for one-off cases, but if I have many instances of the emoticons I'd have to go back and manually type them in.

Does anyone know of a way to do some kind of bulk emoticon insertion/replacement?

I would accomplish something like this with the Confluence Source Editor add-on. It should be pretty easy to use for this since there's a built-in find and replace, and all of the emoticons follow a simple format like <ac:emoticon ac:name="tick"/>.

Thanks. Unfortunately my company doesn't have this add-on so hopefully there is another solution.

It's a free add-on, and honestly it's the most reasonable solution. You could have your DBA do the same find and replace directly on confluence's tables, or you could figure out a way to manipulate your system's clipboard to do the find/replace there (since emoticons persist when copy/pasting content in the confluence editor in your browser). Your choice!
