Page shortcut do not work in Chrome

Fernando Navarro Rodríguez April 2, 2019

Hi,

in a MacBook Air, the following shortcuts do not work in Chrome, but they do in Safari:

  • e - edit page
  • s - share page
  • b - add a block
  • m - add a comment

but "l" for label, works fine.

As you can imagine, "e" for edit is killing me.

All shortcuts work fine in a MacBook Pro.

It is pretty weird. Can you help me to re-activate at leat the "e" shortcut?

Thanks

Fernando

Hi @Fernando Navarro Rodríguez ,

What differs web browser (e.g Chrome) in your MacBook Air vs Pro?

Are they running on the same version? Which version?

Do you have any add-on installed in MacBook Air that could be preventing shortcuts from working? Does the same issue happens if you test a shortcut on an Incognito window?

Are you testing shortcuts against the same Confluence instance on both Macbook? The reason for this inquire is that you can change shortcuts as per https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/how-do-i-change-the-keys-for-keyboard-shortcuts-228066005.html

Kind regards,
Rafael

Hi Rafael,

Thanks for jumping in.

Here are the details:

  • Confluence version: Confluence 5.5.6
  • Chrome version in the MacBook Air: Version 73.0.3683.86 (Official Build) (64-bit)
  • Chrome version in the MacBook Pro: Version 73.0.3683.86 (Official Build) (64-bit) -same-

I have the same plug-ins in both mac, in fact, the MacBook Air is a restored version of a TimeMachine back up of the MacBook pro.

I am testing against the same page in confluence in both mac.

The interesting thing is the in incognito mode, the issue disappears and the "e" shortcut works fine!!!!! <----- how can I get the shortcut working in the normal mode, too.

Thanks

Fernando

Hi Fernando,

If it works in Incognito mode, it might be the case of one of the plugins / extensions in Chrome may be preventing the shortcut from working.

When running Chrome in Incognito mode, by default extensions / plugins are disabled and it is required by the user to have them enabled in Incognito mode.

Doing a quick search, Evernote seems to have / use shortcuts and one of them is the letter 'e', https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/evernote-shortcuts/clhjalfedcigiomjfmmjhgadnlmegobb?hl=en , perhaps this is what is conflicting / preventing Confluence shortcut from working.

As a suggestion, disable Chrome plugins / extensions one-by-one until you find the one that is preventing Confluence shortcut from working. Once you find it, I would appreciate if you could reply to this thread with your findings, sharing the plugin / extension that was causing you grief.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,
Rafael

Hi Rafael, you hit the nail! it is Evernote plug-in.

for the record, in my MacBook Pro, with the same chrome version and the plug-in does not interfere in Confluence shortcuts.

Thank you very much.
