Our Confluence server doesn't allow us to save Chinese Characters how can we enable this?

Hi,

We are using an English version of Confluence (and Jira) for all of our project management and documentation. 

Our product will roll out to China at some stage, so our Chines colleague tried to add some translations to an existing page. 

Saving that page wouldn't work. How can we overcome this?

I found some translation packages, but we don't want the whole confluence application to be translated, we only need it to accept Chines characters.
