You'll need to read the logs to find out what is going on

As Nic suggested, please do check the logs at:

  • <confluence_install>/logs/ (anything recent in this directory
  • <confluence_home>/logs/atlassian-confluence.log
Note: The <confluence_home> directory is the path defined in the following file: <confluence_install>/confluence/WEB-INF/classes/confluence-init.properties

Look for synchronization errors and errors that say the external directory is not available. There should be a reason for the failed sync or unavailable directory in the related stack trace.

BTW-The logs spell synchronize with an s where we would use a z: synchronise.

I always forget that the logs are in English rather than American English!

The logs are from a land down under. ;)
