Moving pages without administrator rights

Anna Antretter March 6, 2017

About two weeks ago, we moved our Confluence to a new server. Since then, the user has been able to move pages. - even without admin rights! We as admins have not changed any permissions.

Space permissions:

 Global permissions:

Is this a new function in Confluence or can we change this again, because we would like to keep that only admins can move pages.

We use version 5.9.4

Hi Anna,

from Confluence documentation (https://confluence.atlassian.com/conf59/move-and-reorder-pages-792498724.html):

To move a page, you need the following permissions:

  • 'Add' permission on the page you're moving, and
  • 'View' permission on the page's parent page. If you're moving the page to a different parent, you need 'View' permission on the new parent.

To move a page into a different space, you also need:

  • 'Delete' permission on the space you're moving from, and
  • 'Add' permission on the space you're moving to.

If the page has restrictions, and you want to keep the page restrictions in the new location, you'll also need 'Restrict' permission on the space you're moving to. Alternatively, remove the page restrictions before performing the move.

To add to this, in order to move a restricted page you need:

  • 'Restrictions' permissions on the page, and
  • 'Can View and Edit' rights added on the page you're moving explicitly, even if it looks like you already have that with elevated permissions
