Migrate and upgrade the confluence server

Systems Admin September 27, 2017

Hi,

We are using self-hosted "Atlassian Confluence 5.3". We now wanted to upgrade and migrate our server to a virtual instance. In this process, can we install a latest version of confluence on the new box and migrate the current database to the new version? or do we need to maintain the same version migrate and then upgrade?

Thank you
Suresh

Suresh,

On the new instance you will need to install the same version of confluence you are currently running.  You can then migrate the DB and the Confluence core files to the new instance.  Then you will need to upgrade to the latest version.

Make sure you check the release notes so you upgrade in the proper order.  Some of versions have issues that you need to address by moving to a lower version before jumping to the latest version.
