I need to add a new section to my customer pages and I don't want to edit 50 pages manually. I need to be able to update the template the pages are based on once.
That's very much not what templates are for, and it would be a disaster for most people - I don't want old pages changing when I decide I need to change a template! What happens if your 50-ish pages were not the only ones created from your template and you stomp on someone else's work?

Generally, people use include and excerpts to do this - you set up a library of pages that contain the information that might need to change globally, and then include/excerpt them instead of putting in the same data repeatedly. Not ideal, and only works for some types of information.
