Live Input Macro - Permissions/Edit Button

Eric Zago December 1, 2021

I have a server install of Confluence 7.13.2, and am considering using the Live Input Macro add-on to have a "In/Out Board" where staff can mark who is in/out each day (just like a traditional whiteboard/magnet board posted in the reception area.

However, I would prefer that most staff NOT be able to edit the page contents itself, just be able to use the Live Input Macro buttons to mark themselves in/out.

On the Live Input Macro playground page (https://ossapps.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/LIM/pages/255099122/Playground) - they have that demo running without an Edit button.  Is that actually an option available for Server installs, or is that playground just a special demo case?

However, if I leave off edit permissions for the user group, they can view the page, but not make Live Input changes.

At the moment the option I'm considering is using the HideElements plugin to hide the Edit button ... but that is just security through obscurity (since the E shortcut exists and still works).

Is there a better way to allow Live Input Macros to work its magic without allowing regular staff the ability to edit the page contents?

Thanks,

-Eric
