Linking an external file in confluence

Eunice Mora January 26, 2016

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Links

How do you link an external file located in a network shared location uisng the UNC path?

I tried the wiki markup format and it doesn't work:

file:///UNC-network-server/file.txt

This does work in mediawiki but not in confluence:  file://fqd-server-name/folder1/file.txt

The server UNC-network-server shall be visible to confluence server.  But why do you need this? You may attach the file to page and use it as attachment in your macro, or you shall open http/s access to file.txt to the confluence server
