Jira macro converts to link on edit and macro is removed

Mark W_ Foster November 20, 2020

When I am in confluence and create an issue on some text, Jira macro is created in the page. If I enter edit mode I see the macro. If I publish and re-enter edit mode the Jira macro is converted to a link and is no longer a macro and cannot be edited as such. When I re-publish the presentation changes as the macro renders different than a link.

Also, if I add a macro in edit mode, Jira macro is created. If I then re-enter edit mode after publishing, the macro no longer exists and has converted to a link in similar fashion.

This does not make sense. If something is added as a macro, it should stay a macro.

What can be done to fix this?

Hi @Mark W_ Foster

As far as I know, this is now how it works in Confluence:

  • If the Jira issue macro returns just one result, it is turned into a link - which can be displayed as a URL, link or card
  • If the macro returns more than one result, it remains as the Jira macro

You can recreate the Jira issue macro if needed, by typing /jira and selecting it again!
