Is there a way to have checkboxes in a wiki page without it modifying the page?

I want to have a checklist in a wiki page, but readers keep clicking the boxes, which modifies the wiki page. I don't want that.  I want them to look like checkboxes, but not actually be an active element on the page. Is there a way to do that?

This widget could not be displayed.

Hi Ned,

In that case, you would have to insert images of checkboxes instead of actually using the macro.
