Hey Community,
hoping that someone can help with this scenario:
Some Context
Been using Atlassian software for some time, now running my own Jira + Confluence (cloud) for our small business. At the outset I have to say I am not familiar with/have no interest in learning JQL, buying additional add-ons to get (what should be) base functionality, hiring a dev, etc.
The Workflow
We have external clients that we invite to our Confluence. Each page is a project (with nested pages for various elements of said project).
We have an internal Jira board for managing project tasks.
Right now, we are managing two identical datasets between Confluence and Jira - eg project tasks, timelines, dates, status, etc. Not ideal.
The Challenge
How do we get to a point where the data is replicated? We've messed around with inserting Jira filtered lists into Confluence (having to utilise a 3rd party app, play with JQL, etc) but run into the problem of not being able to assign permissions at a per-epic-level, meaning guests can't actually see anything. The 3rd party/JQL stuff was required as otherwise Jira just spits out the nested stories and subtasks in either date or alphabetical order, ignoring the hierarchy - again not idea.
The Frustration
I don't care if the data is one way only, ideally Jira would be the source.
This is basic project management & stakeholder collab 101, yet it appears that Atlassian software is needlessly complicated. I've heard the "yeah but it's SO functional once you master it"... but we don't have the 5 years required to get our heads around speaking Atlassian-ish to unlock simple functionality. We are running a business, and paying for a product which as yet doesn't seem to serve our needs (Notion, etc are not what we are after either).
TLDR
So, does anyone know how we can share specific Jira Epic info in Confluence that external guests can see at a per Epic, Per Confluence page level so that we don't have to manage individual data for Jira and Confluence?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Bree,
If I get you correctly, then you wish to have Jira as the source of information but would like to read everything from Confluence.
Recently I created a few Confluence pages, where I had similar requirement.
I used Rich Filters to filter the Issues at high level and then used Views to get relevant information for different requirements. At the end, I'm using Rich Filter Controller to see only relevant content e.g. to see only Epic or Stories.
To get some additional information some of the Epics, I'm using Custom Fields and Jira Automations.
We do have similar scenario - where we are working with other teams, who are not familier with Jira. But, they get all the required information from our Confluence pages and are well updated about the status.
