Integrating Hosted HipChat and Confluence

Pritesh Davda May 8, 2015

We are integrating the server editions of HipChat with Confluence and Jira. While enabling HipChat, confluence redirect it to the cloud instance of HipChat.

I dont see any option to change the Url of the target HipChat server.

Has anyone encountered this issue? How to fix?

Hi @Pritesh Davda,

You should be able to integrate Confluence Server with HipChat Server. The screenshot below shows the configuration screen for JIRA & HipChat:

See more details in the comments on this page:

By the way, update to the latest version of the Hipchat integration, and you'll see a different UI:

The top one is the preinstalled version. The middle and bottom are the updated version.

Hi David,

Thanks for the details you have shared. It was helpful and I was able to resolve the issue to the first part. After updating the plug-in, the prompt for HipChat server got enabled.

Unfortunately, after providing the HipChat url, confluence redirects to HipChat and a prompt was shown to accept installing the additional plug-ins. Following error message is shown on the Confluence page.

"Error encountered creating your hipchat link

Something went wrong integrating Confluence and HipChat. We probably had trouble connecting to the HipChat server. Check that the connection between your server and HipChat is working correctly and try again.

Try uninstalling the existing integration from HipChat before trying again."

The HipChat site (https enabled) is accessible from the browser as well as from the Confluence server (http only).

I believe you'll need to install HipChat Server certificate into Confluence keystore before the two servers can communicate with each other successfully. Do give that a try and then restart Confluence for the changes to pick up. You can refer here for details on how to install the certificate into the keystore: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Running+Confluence+Over+SSL+or+HTTPS
