If you do an export to HTML of a Confluence space, can that be used as a online doc web site outside of CF? if not, what is the best way to export a Confluence doc space to a customer who may or may not be using Confluence?

Hi,

My company uses Confluence for documentation. Our OEM customers that brand our product may want the content of our docs so they can brand that as well.

Is the HTML export an option here? If I give them the HTML file, can they use it as an online doc website outside of Confluence?

If not, what are my options? I know the XML export works great when restoring a space in Confluence and the PDF and single page export to Word seem cumbersome. I really don't want to do that if I can avoid it.

Just looking for the options that are available in your expert opinion.

Thank You.

Why not give your OEM customers a login account to your Confluence - you could create a special Space for them to access and just copy "shared" source files/content etc for them to use into that shared Space.

That will also so some loyalty to them of giving them some privileged access to your Intellectual Property.

They might also share some stuff back to you.

ok - we had considered this but I was not able to prevent outside users from accessing the space directory. Is there a way to prevent that?

Thanks.

Hi MaryAnn,

Firstly, ensure that anonymous users don't have access to your site, as well as the space. You can check this by navigating to Confluence Administration > General Configuration > Global Permissions.

If by "outside users" you mean unauthorised users with an account in Confluence, you can edit the space permissions of that particular space. Only list the groups that your OEM customers belong to, or list out their individual usernames in the space permissions. You can read more about it here: Permissions and Restrictions.

If you need further help on setting the permissions, let me know and I can assist you with that to ensure only the users you want are able to view the pages in the space.

Hope this helps!
