If not converted, what will happen to existing pages and our custom templates?

Wendy Emerman January 23, 2020

We have existing pages and page templates that use

  • Nested columns layout
  • More custom image sizes in layout
  • Custom aligned images within a layout (like three images in a row)
  • Resized images in tables
  • Custom table widths
  • Table ‘overflow’ in layouts (a horizontal scroll bar appears)
  • Images that link to attachments
  • and more

These features cannot be converted.  What is the fate of these pages and templates?  How will the pages display and function?

Hello @Wendy Emerman !

This is a pretty valid question you sent our way. You can have peace of mind because the complete removal of tinyMCE is not happening anytime soon.

Our automatic migration from tinyMCE (old editor) to Fabric (new editor) has been halted a few months ago. Here is an excerpt from that blog post:

We will no longer be converting existing pages to the new experience - instead, you will only see the new experience when you create a new page.

Here you can check the whole post:

The only thing you need to be aware of is that all your new pages will be created using Fabric and can not be converted to tinyMCE.

For short, your pages will continue working. There is no auto-migration of pages to Fabric.

I hope this clarifies things for you, Wendy! Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks - you clarified the answer for existing pages.  But what about our existing templates?  If there are features in our old templates, such as nested columns (and other features mentioned above), will they still be supported when the template is used to create a new page?

Also, my go-to page for new editor updates is here.  This page should reflect that the transition has been halted.
