I want to be an external contributor to my external developers' confluence. However how do I retain

However if my company changes external developers, how do we ensure we can take the knowledge built up in confluence with the current developers with us?

@[deleted] Welcome to the Atlassian Community

You could work with the external developer so you could export the space and take it with you.  Or you could setup your own space and aske them to use that so you own the content.
