I merged a page into a future version but it didn't preserve the history. How can I solve this?

First I have to state that I copied the page and paste it in the future version. When I realize that by using copy the history is not preserved, I deleted the page and I tried to merge from the previous version. But when you make an instance of a page in a future version via copy, it seems that merge don't work anymore. Is there any workaround to that issue?

If you copy a page, the new page that is created will not have a history and it will start with its own history.  The old page will retain its history.
