How to customize the header/nav and footer

While in the "Look and Feel" I see options to insert a header, footer, and sidebar text (html macro cannot be enabled).  This however, only prepends the text to the main content area for the header, and appends it to the footer.  My purpose is to completely change the default header/nav and footer.   Is that possible?

Hi Brendan,

You can do this by altering the .vm files under <confluence-install>/confluence/decorators/includes
