How long should rebuilding confancestors take?

Tim Colson November 18, 2013

We noticed some issues that seemed to indicate a need to rebuild the confancestors table as described in this CONFKB: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB/Unable+to+Move+Pages+with+Attachments

We fired up the rebuild process...but hours later, the confancestors table only had ~33 entries, nearly 14 hours later, only about 500 entries. In one of our other servers, there are over 800,000 entries. Both systems have over 400,000 pages.

How does the confancestors rebuild process work and is there a way to gauge how long it should take based on the number of pages, or some other metric from the DB?

Follow-on question: are there things that could slow it down, like, for example, a hierarchy in a space that is 100+ levels deep? (yes, really, we have that)

This magic process is poorly documented -- have you tried asking support?

Maybe one day they will make it automatic (see https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-25188)
