How do I include an HTML link in confluence that is a file, not a website?

I am creating doxygen from source, and in the Detailed Design page of each module, I would like a link to the doxygen page.

Ie,

file://cld-fs-01/Shared/Engineering/api/index.html

I tried using web links, and I can link www.google.com, but if I put this in, it does not work.

cld-fs-01 is a server in our network where I can copy the built doxygen output, and reference from confluence.

Any suggestions?

We have had an exhaustive discussion of this subject, please see the comment by Ted Costales which sums up several of the options.

This article has some useful information as well: Cannot link to local files from within Confluence
