How do I delete a table within a table?

I made a table. I went to cut and paste, and instead of taking just the text, it took the whole table and inserted those lines into the original table. I just want to delete the extra table that inserted when I went to cut and paste.

does navigating to the table and clicking the "delete table"-button not work?
