How can we recover a deleted attachment?

Someone has accidentally deleted an attachment from a Confluence 3.5 page. We don't know what the attachment was called (it was probably a Word doc). I know that if you delete a whole page with an attachment, both the page and the attachment can be recovered from the trash.

So I don't think the attachment is actually gone, I just think we've lost the "pointer" to it. I think need to go to the system admins/dba to look in the database to find the missing file.

My question is:

  1. what does the admin need to look for? They're very, very busy and won't have time to research this. We only know the page ID and the date/time of the deletion. Is there any other info (that I can find myself) to help them retrieve the doc?

  2. Or is it a waste of time to ask? I don't want to waste the sysadmin's time if it's a hopeless task. I could go down the low-tech route of hunting for the person that (probably) attached the thing originally and hope they've got a copy of the doc somewhere.
