How can I setup my Confluence database without using the wizard

Edward Petersen April 11, 2016

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Confluence Setup Guide

For JIRA, I was able to place a dbconfig.xml file in the configuration directory and my database connection was setup. The initial wizard setup still ran for generating a server ID and retrieving a license, but the database was taken care of.

I'd like to do the same for Confluence, but it appears the database configuration has been conflated with other server configuration in the confluence.cfg.xml file. I tried just starting out with a confluence.cfg.xml file that has the database lines populated, but that didn't work (frankly, I was expecting it wouldn't).

Is there any way to automate this? Seems strange that these two products do not leverage the same type of configuration under the hood.

I also found this testdatabase.jsp utility very useful for debugging the db setup
