How can I connect a webdav client

I'm trying to connect a Windows 7 Network drive to Confluence 3.5.13. Confluence outputs a crytic username and fails to login:

2012-08-27 10:55:40,980 DEBUG [http-8080-37] [confluence.extra.webdav.ConfluenceDavSessionProviderImpl] authenticate User name: `? ^K^F^F+^F^A^E^E^B??0?00.^F
      *?H??^R^A^B^B^F *?H??^R^A^B^B^F

mrxdav.sys version is 6.1.7601.17514

Thanks in advance,

Hi, Confluence needs to listen on port 80 and not 8080 for this to work. Follow this guide for further information on setting up WebDAV.

Network Drives can't be mapped at the moment. Please use Network Folders steps as a workaround. Refer to my link earlier for more information.

I've tested webdav on another server which listens on port 80 with the same result:

2012-08-27 12:11:24,944 WARN [http-80-4] [atlassian.seraph.auth.DefaultAuthenticator] login login : '`? ^M^F^F+^F^A^E^E^B?? ^A0?00.^F *?H??^R^A^B^B^F *?H??

I gues my webdav client is messed up somehow
