Give permission to a child page but not the Space?

Team Admin June 13, 2013

We have spaces where a whole project is listed - different child pages for the branches/aspects.

Now we want to allow the team-members to view/edit certain child-pages but not the whole space.

As I understand, the restrictions are inherited. Is there a way to change the logic to permissions?

(similar to the file-share-logic: one can see a folder and all sub-folders but not the parent/root)

Hi Thomas,

we figured this workaround (and others) as well, but as you already said - this will definitely result in a restriction hell as we would have to set up a massive number of restrictions (or "restrict view/edit to" settings).

Tanks anyway

Hi Jochen,

there's no way to change this logic as far as I know. We had a similar problem and made it this way:

  1. Create a group: whole project without the team members
  2. Give space permission to whole project
  3. Put all the pages the team members should see under a certain first-level-page
  4. Restrict all the other first-level-pages (without the one created for "3") to the group created in "1", so they can be seen by everyone but not the team members

Of course this is only manageable with a small number of first-level-pages and you have to restrict every new first-level-page of your space. If you have a lot of them, you will end in a "restriction hell" that is hard to understand some months later ;-)

Good Luck

Thomas
