Formatting text imported from Word

Jim Thames April 28, 2014

I've imported a document into Confluence 5.3.4 and need to correct some formatting, specifically applying the "preformatted" style to text in a section of the document. But when I select the target text and apply the sytle from the menu the entire block of text is changed, figure number, figure title title and all text before and after the selection. It would appear that the Confluence editor is keeping blocks behind the scenes and applying styles according to those block rather than my selection.

The blocks in question originalted from a "Firgure" markup in Word 2010.

Any ideas as to what it going on and how to fix it?

Just had an "ah ha!!" moment...

Selected the "Insert" drop down, "Other Macros" selection and added a "No format" block to the page and did a cut/paste of the text into the block. Works fine.

Can't say that this is as intuitive as I'd like but it works.
