Does Confluence continue to send emails to disabled accounts (using internal directory)?

I run a fairly large instance of Confluence and, with the rate at which people are moving in and out of the org and are having accounts disabled and re-enabled, I want to ensure that if an account is disabled in Confluence, Confluence won't send emails to it.
