Our user like the ease of use for Confluence content. However, for a specific use case we have a large folder structure on a file server (folders from A to Z, with customer specific subfolder and so on). Inside the folder we store regular office documents. Our users would love to include these documents in Confluence but there are literally thousands of documents. I think, that this is a job for a full-blown document management system, but I would like to know what the limits of Confluence are in this scenario. Has anyone tried things like this?
I believe WebDav can help you on that. I’ve found this post on the forum that looks similar to your case.
In addition, please have a look into this documentation:
Hope it helps.
Hi Renato, thank you for sharing these links. We do already use WebDav to handle attachments. However in this specific case, the existing structure would result in a Confluence page tree with several thousand pages each containing a bunch of attachments. I wonder if Confluence would be be able to handle this or if it would simply collapse. Regards Michael
Considering your scenario, I guess the best alternative would be to link the file on Confluence instead of attaching it there. You might need to install an Add-on on your browser, depending on which browser you are using. A bit more of details you can find here, on the Resolution part.
I hope it helps.
