Confluence stops to work after 4-12 hours.

After Confluence has been running for several months without any issues an annoying problem has started to occur. After 4-12 hours the Confluence instance stops working. Not possible to logon. When the Confluence windows service is restarted it starts to work again. But after 4-12 hours same issue occurs.

I have tried to upgrade to the newest version (7.0.2), but same issue.

Details about the setup: Confluence is running on a local windows server (Windows Server 2016)

Hi there @Julien Dumas

Have you checked the log files during the occurrence of this outages? You should have a look at the the application log (<confluence-home>/logs/atlassian-confluence.log) , look for ERROR, WARN and FATAL with timestamps matching to the time the outage occurs.

Also how is the memory usage on the Server? Is there enough memory available?

Cheers
Niklas

Hi. I checked the log for when the service crashed. It was clear that the issue was related to memory usage. The following was written in the log: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

A search on google gave the following result(s):

https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/confluence-crashes-due-to-outofmemoryerror-java-heap-space-error-183469749.html

How to allocate more memory to Confluence: https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/how-to-fix-out-of-memory-errors-by-increasing-available-memory-154071.html

When more memory was allocated to the Tomcat instance the Confluence was working again without crashing.

Confluence is working again now, so that's great. Thanks for your input.

Kind regards Jeppe

Great! It's good you were able to resolve it. :)
