I potentially have a new set of Confluence users if they can do what they had done before with their mediawiki environment using the TreeAndMenu extension. The specific things they want to be able to do is "The idea is that you can create an interactive file system diagram with in-line comments describing the purpose of the different files/folders. This plugin supports menu construction as well."
A quick search through the Add-ons didn't turn up anything that looked exactly like they wanted.

That sounds really easy to do. It could be created with auser macro that wraps a nested unordered list.
The user macro would include some stock javascript from a library that builds the menu system.
