Confluence path

Paul K. September 9, 2019

I just registered an account to test out confluence cloud for my company. I now have a question regarding the path structure of the instance. For example I created a space called "TEST". Now the path to this space looks like this:

https://companyname.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TEST/

I can not remember to have entered the word "wiki" at any time in the setup process.

We would like to use confluence as a multipurpose tool so one of our spaces might be called "wiki" and another might be called "Customer support knowledgebase" etc.

But: https://companyname.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/wiki/

doesn't make sense in my opinion since it contains the word wiki two times.

Is there a way to change this Part of the URL Structure? Like this:

https://companyname.atlassian.net/myownwording/spaces/TEST/  or like this

https://companyname.atlassian.net/foo/bar/TEST/

Best Regards

@Paul K.I am afraid 'wiki' part is constant and is not configurable as of now.

Thank you!

Quoting your "as of now" part, do you know anything about this being planned for the near future?

There are some issues related to custom site URLs etc already reported to Atlassian.

They are under consideration and Atlassian is gathering information around them.

I thinks issues like this will also get resolved once those are fixed.

@Paul K. I'm imagining you're looking at the internal use case, but in case you're looking to create an external, read-only, view of your Confluence, you could use the Scroll Viewport app. In Scroll Viewport, you can fully customize the URL used for the site.

Thank you for the reply. This was not what I was looking for. It does not work with Confluence Cloud instances. I mentioned that we are using cloud in the original post. I find the path structure confusing even for internal use. Confluence is clearly advertised as "more than just a wiki" but many things. Spaces are flexible and customizable. Why /wiki/spaces seems to be the standard path and can not be changed is an absolute mystery to me.

Ahhhh, I should have asked about Cloud. :)

I'm sure there's a Jira issue somewhere for removing "wiki" from the URL somewhere, it's just not close enough to the back of the backlog yet.
