In confluence calendar when we add an event and select users in "who" field, it takes the control to User profile page instead.

I believe you might being impacted by this bug:
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-40386
The workaround suggested is: "Affected users will need to upload a new profile picture which does not have any spaces in the filename."
