Confluence Space migration from one instance to another

AKASH BHARDWAJ November 24, 2013

Hi Geniuses,

I want to move Confluence 1 Space for example 'X' which is there on instance having confluence version 4.3 to another instance having Confluence Version 5.0, So I went accross several Blogs and Documents, So my Question is

a) whether we can move the Space from lower versions to higher versions? as per the documentation we need to either upgarde it to same version or else it may through error.

b) What should be Precautionary Steps that i should be looking before performing any Migration.

Thanks,

As you know, space export/imports only works for instances running the same mayor version of Confluence. A migration path to workaround this limitation is:

  1. Take space export from Confluence 4.3.
  2. Restore the space in a test server running 4.3.x.
  3. Upgrade the test server to 5.0.x.
  4. Take a space export from your test server (now running 5.0.x)
  5. Restore that space export in your production Confluence 5 instance.

Is there a way to automate this process for a set of spaces?  An API for space export/import?
