Confluence - JIRA error message

Im trying to add JIRA issues into Confluence so i can view them from there. Using the JIRA issue Macro its displays the message -

The JIRA server was not able to process the search. This may indicate a problem with syntax of this macro. Alternatively, if this table is requesting specific issue keys, you may not have permission to view one of these issues.

Um, yes, the error message is telling you where to look first. Is the macro being used correctly according to the docs for it? Does your confluence user have the rights to view all the issues it should return? Is the link between Jira and Confluence working?
